48 Hours at Silena – the soulful Hotel

a stylish and casual hotel in the northern part of South Tyrol with great food and a considerable wine selection

Finally a short trip to Italy, after months of staying home due to the Covid-19 pandemic it was our first trip to our favourite country. Our first stop was the magnificent Alto Adige. On our way to the beautiful Silena Hotel, we passed by the lovely town of Brixen – a super romantic village itself, with the restaurant “Finsterwirt” - definitely a place worth to visit. Inside it is more like a museum than a restaurant, but the terrace outside is super chic and stylish surrounded by green vines.

After our lunch, we took the highway to the north and into the mountains to the hotel. A modern building but also with a significant focus on rationality and touch for nature. The front desk team accompanied us to the loggia outside where we started our experience with a glass of Prosecco and some homemade “Speck” and “Schüttelbrot” while they were doing the organisational stuff. For all hikers or mountain lovers, they have a free ride with the lift right behind the hotel included and equipped you with several maps. Right after all those delights, we went up to our room, a so-called SOULFUL Room with 32 square meters and a small terrace with Mountain View and sun all day.

All the rooms in the hotel are super new and stylish. Again you could see that they wanted to give you the full mountain experience with all those little details. The whole room was quite dark with a lovely wood structure paired with a wallpaper which gave the atmosphere of being in the forest because of the dark green colours, the silhouettes of trees and dragonflies. Another eye-catcher in the room is the oversized king bed which was really heavenly. The bathroom was matching the rest of the room perfectly working with the same wallpaper and dark black tiles and a rain shower. My personal highlight of the room has been a very personal touch: there was a handwritten notice on the blackboard on the inside of the door.

The Spa area of the hotel is a level itself. We really like the style of the hotel. They combined the old and the new perfectly. When you enter the pool area you will find the towels in an old wooden case in the next corner you will find a cosy alpine tea corner with armchairs. When you go to the next room, you’ll discover daybeds to rest after a day full of hiking or biking. And the big Pool which is in- and outdoors has enough space for all the guests. In case you’re exhausted at the end of the day you could even regenerate in a whirlpool. At the ground level you find two steam baths and one sauna, but the most beautiful spot is on top of the hotel on the fifth floor where you will find the rooftop with some outdoor sunbeds and at the end of the terrace is the panoramic sauna. Latter one fits easily 20 to 30 people. At the fifth floor, there is another silence area with beds and swings and of course you have these stunning view into the mountains.

Our dinner, which was part of the half board was outstanding. The hotel offers a daily changing six-course menu with mainly local products. Also, they have a big buffet with fresh salads. For me, the best part of the restaurant was the big wine refrigerator in the middle of the room out of glass, and they also do have one for cheese. They have a Sommelier for wine and cheese in house so be sure to ask him for recommendations. He seemed to be super young but also very knowledgable and will surprise you with the right wine for the right course or a particular taste. The breakfast in the morning is also very sumptuous. The team will guide you to the same table as in the evening, will offer you freshly brewed coffee or tea and a variety of different egg dishes. The rest of the product offering is on the buffet, from a big choice of fresh bread and fruits to cold cuts and juices. With a juicer, you could mix yourself fresh juices every day to start your day right.

All in all, it was a wonderful stay at a lovely alpine hotel which is definitely worth to visit. We would love to come back very soon to explore our favourite area in the Alps.
