24 Hours at the Hotel Goldener Hirsch, Salzburg
First of all you have to say that this might be the most traditional hotel in Salzburg and I have to be honest, this might have been the oldest hotel room I have ever stayed in.
The location is excellent, in the famous “Getreidegasse” just next to Mozart’s birthplace. However we arrived by car, which was terrible. There is no space to park the car and the baggage has to be transported by the porter through the hotel. Nevertheless, the check-in was very friendly and they even greeted us by last name.
They showed us up to the room, which was a long walk through a labyrinth of a hotel. The room itself was very unspectacular and just old-fashioned – of course that’s what you expect from a stay at the “Goldener Hirsch”, so nothing bad about it. Everything was clean and the room was spacious, too.
The bathroom was very nice, although they also replaced the luxurious Bvlgari toiletries by not famous Water L’Eau ones – like most of the Luxury Collecion Hotels. After strolling through the small old town we had a nice dinner in a cool restaurant in front of the hotel.
When we found ourselves back in the hotel room, we recognized that this hotel has nothing to do after a dinner, they only have a high-price restaurant and an overpriced bar, so we went to bed and fell asleep.
We did not have breakfast in the hotel, but we went to a very cool place called “Demel” – a traditional café with modern furnishings (now closed!). After we checked out we had to pay a high fee for the nightly valet parking.
All in all this is a very traditional hotel and maybe the best place to be seen during the famous “Salzburger Festspiele”, as the “Festspielhaus” is just across the street on the backside of the hotel.
