A Weekend at Nimb Hotel, Copenhagen

Copenhagen is undoubtedly a dream destination for every luxury traveler. No other city boasts such a stellar reputation for world-class dining and Michelin-starred restaurants. My journey to Denmark’s capital, however, was serendipitous rather than planned. As part of my three-week trip through Southeast Asia, an unbelievably good airfare deal finally gave me the perfect excuse to visit this long-time bucket-list destination. And at the top of my must-visit hotels in Europe? The iconic Nimb Hotel.

Arriving in Copenhagen in mid-February, I wasn’t deterred by the winter chill. Instead, I was greeted by clear blue skies and crisp air, setting the scene for what would become one of the best city trips I’ve ever taken. Spoiler alert: I’m already planning my return, and there’s no question—I’ll be staying at the Nimb Hotel again. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves; here’s the full story of my unforgettable stay at this exquisite Small Luxury Hotel.

Arrival & First Impressions

We landed at Copenhagen Airport at 10 PM, and it was at that moment that I realized just how well-functioning Denmark’s infrastructure truly is. Within just 12 minutes, we arrived at the city’s central train station, and to our surprise, Nimb Hotel was located directly across from it. While a train station-adjacent location might not sound glamorous in most cities, Nimb makes it work effortlessly. The entrance may face the station, but the magic happens on the other side, where the hotel overlooks the enchanting Tivoli Gardens. This hidden sanctuary ensures that all guest rooms, restaurants, and even the rooftop pool enjoy breathtaking views.

Stepping into Nimb from the historic, fairy-tale-like train station felt like entering another world. Despite the late hour, we were warmly welcomed by name, and the check-in process was swift and seamless. Within minutes, a friendly front desk attendant personally escorted us to our room—an elegant touch that set the tone for the entire stay.

The Hotel & Ambience

The Nimb Hotel is divided into the main building and a seamlessly integrated annex. The transition between the two spaces is so flawless that you’d never guess they weren’t originally one. The design? Simply breathtaking. The interiors exude a refined residential feel—more akin to a stately mansion than a hotel. Independent boutique hotels always hold a special place in my heart, and Nimb is a shining example of why. Staying here felt intimate, personal, and deeply connected to Copenhagen’s unique culture—something you just don’t experience at large hotel chains.

Even late at night, the Nimb Bar was alive with locals enjoying a jazz concert (live music events are a regular highlight, so be sure to check the hotel’s calendar). After a brief tour, we realized that Copenhagen, despite its culinary excellence, offers limited late-night dining options. Thankfully, the hotel had a solution: they recommended we order sushi from the neighboring Sticks’n’Sushi outlet—a thoughtful touch that ensured our first night in the city didn’t start with an empty stomach.

The Room: A Haven of Luxury

Our Deluxe Room on the second floor was a sanctuary of elegance and comfort. The moment we stepped in, we were captivated by the seamless blend of contemporary design and timeless antiques. Black lacquered doors opened into a spacious entryway, complete with a wardrobe, a yoga mat, and a stylish pool bag stocked with plush towels. The bedroom featured an antique writing desk, a cozy seating area, and a thoughtfully curated selection of welcome amenities, including a handwritten note from the manager and a box of exquisite homemade pralines. The pièce de résistance? A magnificent four-poster bed, flanked by a minibar stocked exclusively with premium Danish products—an ingenious way to introduce guests to the local flavors. Even better, all snacks and non-alcoholic beverages were complimentary, a rare and delightful touch.

The real highlight of our room, however, was the bathroom—a masterpiece of indulgence. Clad in rich brown marble, it boasted dual vanities, a freestanding soaking tub, a spacious walk-in shower, and a separate toilet. The toiletries, provided in full-size refillable containers, were by the ultra-luxurious Omani brand Amouage, while the guest amenities left nothing to be desired. From Marvis toothpaste and high-quality shaving kits to professional-grade razors, every detail was meticulously curated. Housekeeping maintained impeccable discretion, refreshing our towels twice daily and ensuring that our room remained in pristine condition throughout our stay. Our room overlooked the lush Tivoli Gardens, offering one of the best views available in any city hotel. Despite the hotel’s central location, noise was never an issue. In fact, we left our windows open both nights to enjoy the crisp Copenhagen air, and we slept peacefully each time.

Breakfast & Dining

Mornings at Nimb began with breakfast at the elegant Nimb Brasserie, where floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the tranquil Tivoli Gardens. The setting was serene, and as the morning sun cast a golden glow over the room, it was the perfect way to start the day. During warmer months, guests can also enjoy breakfast al fresco. The spread featured a small yet impeccably curated buffet, complemented by a menu of delectable à la carte dishes—all included in the bed & breakfast rate, along with free-flowing champagne. Some of the a la carte highlights were the Croque Madame and the Avocado Croissant Royale, two mouthwatering breakfast dishes. Every guest can order one a la carte dish in addition to unlimited coffee and tea. While Copenhagen is home to an unparalleled selection of Michelin-starred restaurants, we regrettably didn’t have time to explore Nimb’s own dining outlets. However, we made sure to experience Nimb Wellness.

Nimb Wellness: A Hidden Gem

Located in the hotel’s basement, Nimb Wellness spans 300 square meters and offers a sleek, state-of-the-art gym alongside a beautifully designed wellness space. The expansive steam room (dubbed a hammam) was the ideal retreat after a full day of sightseeing and shopping. We were so impressed that we even squeezed in a final spa visit before our long-haul flight to Singapore—a decision that left us feeling incredibly refreshed for the journey ahead. I can’t thank the Nimb Wellness team enough for allowing us to enjoy the facilities even after check-out. As far as the Nimb Roof is concerned, we will definitely need to plan a stay in the warmer summer months to fully enjoy the rooftop pool and bar. During the winter months November to March, the Nimb Roof remains closed, which was why we didn’t manage to visit it.

Final Thoughts: A True Copenhagen Icon

Copenhagen is an increasingly popular luxury travel destination, and the city’s high-end hotel scene is continuously evolving. While I’m always eager to try new properties, I have no doubt that Nimb will remain my go-to choice whenever I return to Denmark’s capital. The hotel left an unforgettable impression—its warmth, attention to detail, and flawless execution made for an experience that was as rejuvenating as it was luxurious.

What truly sets Nimb apart is its ability to balance modern elegance with timeless charm. It proves that a hotel doesn’t have to be brand-new to feel fresh and relevant; instead, it can embrace heritage and craftsmanship while still offering the highest level of contemporary comfort. For those seeking a truly exceptional stay in Copenhagen, Nimb Hotel is undoubtedly worth the splurge. And if you haven’t yet visited Copenhagen—let this be your sign. This vibrant, stylish city is easily accessible from all major European hubs, and trust me, it’s worth every moment.

  • Is the minibar included in the room?
Yes, all soft drinks and snacks at Nimb Hotel are included and the minibar selection is vast with locally sourced products and high quality items.

Is the hotel within walking distance from the center?
Yes, we walked every time and it will take about 15 to 20 minutes to Nyhavn. Also, the hotel is just across the main station.

What facilities are there at the hotel?
Guests at Nimb Hotel enjoy complimentary access to Tivoli Gardens (when they are open for the season). There is a spa in the basement of the hotel with a very hot steam room, a stylish and well-equipped gym and a relaxation room. During summer months (April-October) there is Nimb Roof with the stunning rooftop pool.

What if I arrive late? Do they have room service 24 hours?
Copenhagen is known for its sophisticated cuisine and Michelin starred restaurants, however dining options after 10 pm are limited here. Get in touch with the Nimb Concierge and pre-order some Sushi from nearby Sticks n Sushi - they will deliver it to your room when you arrive. There is also a very limited night menu consisting of sandwiches and toast.

How flexible is the hotel with late check-out and early check-ins?
With such low amount of rooms and high demand, Hotel Nimb is well frequented and it is therefore not easy to get a late check-out. We checked out, stored the luggage and used the spa before our evening flight. The team was very accommodating.
