24 Hours at Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze

When I would have to name three things Italians do best, I would say food, fashion and interior design. So whenever I have the chance to pass by Milan (a city that holds a special place in my heart), I try to stop for at least one night and indulge in one of the city’s various restaurants and check out a new place to stay every time I come here. For this particular stop, en route to South of France, I had the chance to stay with UNA hotels. As part of their highest-tier category, namely UNA Esperienze, the Milano Verticale is more than just another city hotel. I knew from research that the building had a particular design which perfectly matches my taste. As a fan of interior designer Antonio Citterio’s works (yes I can’t help but am a fan of Bulgari Hotels therefore), I was immediately attracted to the buildings exterior design - which in fact was designed by Paolo Asti, but very much reminds me of Citterio’s style.

I have to say that even though I have visited Milan more often than I have my grandparents house,  I always have a new experience driving to the capital of the region Lombardy. This time, my friend and me took the Splügen Pass for the first time and it definitely made it among the top five of most scenic alpine roads I have ever taken. Just two hours later we pulled up in front of the Milano Verticale. A friendly bellmen immediately took care

of the luggage and told me where I could park my car. So while my friend took care of the check-in, I parked the vehicle in the guarded garage underneath the hotel (but managed by a third party company). Everything of course looked and smelled super fresh, with the hotel just being opened two years ago in summer 2021. Even though the exterior was to my liking, I fell in love with the interior design immediately.

Our room was located on the V-Floor which compounds the hotel’s top three floors. As far as I informed myself on the hotels website, the rooms and suites on a V-Floor come with extra benefits and special services. Unfortunately none of those were introduced to us neither at check-in nor during the stay. So there was no real difference to us compared to the entry-level rooms beside the location in one of the top three floors. Speaking of location, maybe it’s the amazing view of the Duomo and the Castello Sforzesco that are definitely coming up for the surcharge. When we opened the door to our V-Floor Suite with view, we were blown away by the mentioned vistas. Everything was high end, from the parquet floors to the designer furniture and gold brass finishes. Our suite had two vast balconies and I have to mention this is a very first time for me that a room feels so spacious in Milan to me. And I have stayed at the Bulgari, the Park Hyatt and the Principe. With a separate living room and bedroom, the suite had a great layout and the bed would have been heavenly enough even for a longer stay.

Floor-to-ceiling windows enable to enjoy every bit of the setting outside and while the sun set over Milan, we enjoyed a welcoming bottle of beer. Just in time, we got ourselves refreshed in the spacious marble bathroom. There was a double sink, a toilet with bidet and a shower-tub combo with a window overlooking the city of Milan. Toiletries were in refillable containers and UNA-branded - though nicely smelling, I am just not a fan of these refillable bottles. Soon after we were ready for our 10 pm dinner reservation at my all-time-favorite Langosteria down in Tortona. Before returning to the Milano Verticale for a perfect overnight rest, we enjoyed the hotel’s amazing location right off Corso Como and close to Corso Garibaldi - a very lively area with plenty of bars and clubs. Generally the location comes in handy for both, travelers with their own vehicle (thanks to the garage in-house) and everyone traveling by plane and train - Porta Garibaldi station is just behind the hotel. Still we did not feel rushed nor was there any noise from outside.

We even enjoyed a very tranquil breakfast in the hotel’s stunning private garden. Under natural shades, we could sip our morning coffee while indulging in the many delicacies from the buffet. There was also an a la carte menu with dishes to order from the kitchen but actually the selection on the buffet was more than sufficient. Service was friendly though a bit underwhelming as we were not asked if we would wish some coffee or egg dishes. Overall we had an amazing stay in one of Milan’s poshest residential areas with plenty of options close by to dine or drink. I absolutely loved the chic exterior and interior design of the hotel and can highly recommend Milano Verticale for your next city stay in Milan. Should I have the chance to return, I would not hesitate and book a room here again.
