72 Hours at Cap Vermell Grand Hotel, Mallorca
It was our first time on one of the Balearic Islands. Usually, we are not big fans of those over touristic islands. But we heard so much about Mallorca and that it should be so much more than just parties, alcohol and cheap hotels next to full public beaches. So we decided to take a rental car and head away from Palma de Mallorca. Right to the east side of the Island where the small and chic Calas - which means beaches - are and not the mile-long party beaches with Beach Clubs and lots of tourists. We came across the Cap Vermell Grand Hotel years ago when it still was managed by Park Hyatt, but we never made it to check it out.
Just two weeks after booking we found ourselves at the airport in-between small party groups and families, kind of a weird mixture but that’s what it is when you travel to Mallorca. As soon as we reached the sky over the island you could figure out why it is so famous. Ice Blue Sea like in the Caribbean, a rocky and hilly nature with plenty of olives, almond trees and wines. After landing we had to take a shuttle bus to the rental cars and off we went to the east. After just an hour we arrived at the lovely Cap Vermell „village“, slightly on a hill the small fincas snuggled into the hill. Everything was in the Balearic style and very authentic with a lot of sandstone and cypresses and in front of the main building was a very old olive tree. As soon as we arrived in front of the reception the porter welcomed us warmly and guided us to the front desk. The friendly staff already welcomed us with our last names and offered us homemade juice. Just a few moments later the porter which has already parked our car in the garage, took us to our Junior Suite with a garden.
We were kind of impressed by this amazing hotel. And the view of our huge garden over the village and the surrounding hills. Our suite had an open-plan living- and bedroom, a separate wardrobe and everything were dressed in lime or sandstone which gave the place a super calm and cosy vibe. The bathroom is spacious too. A big walk-in shower with a bathtub attached, a double vanity, separate toilets, cosy bathrobes and towels as well as exclusive Bottega Veneta toiletries (another highlight which made everything even more perfect). I also want to specially mention the generous minibar which is included and refilled daily, including four beers, two big bottles of water and a variety of sodas, of course, coffee and tea are included too. Talking about the Junior Suite, the main part of the living- / bedroom was the soft and cosy king-size bed, right next to it was a small desk for some work and on the other side next to the garden door was a comfy seating corner. A separate room for the wardrobe is always a wonderful thing for me. The luggage is stored and you have plenty of space for all your clothes. Heading out to the garden you found a loggia with a big couch and an armchair. The garden was fenced with old vines which I really liked.
After checking out the room we headed down to the pool area. The hotel has four small pools. The biggest one was for families with kids and the smaller ones were adults only. Just lying around those Mediterranean trees smelling those lovely flowers and lemon trees and the sea was so relaxing. Since we were on Mallorca to see something of the island too so we called at the front desk to get our car, which was cold inside due to the garage - a big plus with its 40 degrees celsius outside. As soon as we realized, we checked out different Calas around the hotel (there are four to five lovely ones just 5-20 minutes away from the hotel). After a day full of sun and relaxation we wanted to get something to eat. And that’s so easy to do at Cap Vermell. They have five restaurants- a famous two Michelin stared restaurant called VORO, a ROKA Japanese sushi restaurant, a classic and simple Balearic restaurant, the SES Oliveres which is focused on regional and seasonal products and the Tapas Bar where we had the chance to get our first impression of the Balearic flavour. Another thing I really want to mention is the Mallorcan wine, especially the whites are super intense with a very interesting minerality, make sure you try some of their regional wines. The restaurants are located around a beautiful olive garden with a small builtin river which is so lovely at night.
The breakfast is served at the Balearic Restaurant with a wonderful buffet offering all kinds of delicacies. Fresh Spanish Iberico ham, chorizos and regional cheeses. Obviously, the classics were offered as well, in addition to a huge selection of fresh fruits. A menu was provided, from which you could order fresh eggs, avocado toast and crepes or pancakes. All in all the Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is a perfect destination for all kinds of travellers. You can have a romantic honeymoon there being super private or even organize your wedding in their big ballroom. Or just spend some relaxing days with your family. There is also the possibility to book Cap Vermell with your company: make sure to check out their variety of meeting rooms. It’s worth it and they offer a variety of team-building possibilities. In case you are looking for a sporty week, you could go to the big Gym or the tennis courts right next to the hotel. We had such a nice time and already want to go back. A last big hint - go there during spring or autumn time. It won’t be that crowded on the island and it’s less hot. Best of all: prices are a real steal in shoulder season!
