Restaurant-Check: Locanda di Castelvecchio, Verona
What is better than a late night dinner in one of Italy's most romantic cities? Probably the only way to top this is a dinner at an amazing boutique restaurant like the Relais della Locanda next to Castelvecchio.
We were welcomed by the friendly and more than professional service team.!Our table was situated in a lovely decorated winter garden in the backside of the restaurant.
As a kind of amuse bouche we got a hard boiled egg in regional olive oil and a plate with dry-aged fresh italian ham! A delicious start for a wonderful dinner ;-).
As a cold starter we had a Beef carpaccio with parmesan cheese (the best I've ever had) and a buffola mozzarella with fresh tomatoes in lemon-olive oil and a raw prawn on top - heavenly is the only word to describe this incredible dish!
For "primo piatto" we shared a typical dish of the Veneto - a red wine risotto with the famous Amarone di Valpolicella! Italy at its best!
After a short break we were ready for the main course - a real highlight at Relais della Locanda: their Carolli with a selection of meat. You can choose from a variety of cooked beef and veal which were prepared directly next to your table! This course was served with boiled vegetables and a choice of homemade sauces. Our complete dinner was accompanied by an outstanding tuscan redwine: a Brunello di Montalcino from famous Castello Banfi - definitely worth to try ;-).
To finish this evening in style, we had two espressi with a bowl of homemade meringue. Finally, the only thing we can say is that this has been one of the most wondeful restaurants we have ever been with a top (really upscale!) service, excellent food and an unique atmosphere. This is a restaurant concept we would wish to have in every city! Now, we have a new place to stop by when passing Verona!
We were guests of the Relais della Locanda, however all above written expresses our own opinion and has not been influenced! Everything was top and we had a truly enjoyable evening.
