24 Hours at the Regent Berlin
We are travelling a lot within and outside Europe and stay at many upscale hotels. Having the exercice to test all these hotels, we get a lot to see and experience. This brings adventures, amazing moments and new friendships. Sometimes there are these Wow-Moments and sometimes these boring times. Sometimes we feel welcome, sometimes not. This helps us to better create a review so that is most likely to attract you!
Now I am sitting here thinking about our recent experience at the Regent Berlin. The check-in was smooth and nice and the hotel tour ended in front of the elevator - is this something I can expect at such a hotel? Well at the Grand Hyatt there was someone who went to the room with us, at the Adlon too and at the Rocco Forte Hotel De Rome as well.
111 - Seemed to sound like a cool number, like a super suite or a spacious corner room. The Regent is an eight-storey building and situated on one of Berlin's best locations (beside the Adlon at the Brandenburger Gate - this is unique), but the view of the Gendarmenmarkt could easily come up to it. So we openened the door with big hopes and found a sleek, vast room. The view? Overlooking a street and a building in front - far away from my favourite square in Berlin. Staying on the first floor means people from the opposite can easily watch into your room - I did not love it. However the bathroom was super spacious and looked truly royal, being completely out of marble. A bath tub, seperated toilet and shower as well as a big vanity were accompanied by L'Occitaine toiletries. While the beds were good, I was a bit surprised by the welcome amenities - just a small fruit plate and not even a bottle of water for turn-down-service.
The breakfast is served in the 2-michelin-starred Fischers Fritz restaurant so I expected to find an amazingly good and Berlin's best breakfast. Our table was very nice with views of the Gendarmenmarkt (Finally!) and the service was young. Parts of the breakfast were served and some parts can be found on the buffet, which consists of muesli, croissants, fruits, yoghurts and pastries. Butter, bread, egg disehs, jams, cheese and ham are served. Honestly I was shoked by the bread selection: not one classic white bread nor a tasty alternative. All breads had corns or were pretty hard and dark rye. There was also nobody asking us about the preferences nor if we like it. Orange juice is served as well as coffee. That's it!
Finally I can say that I expected the breakfast to be the best of the stay but now the best remains the Lobby and the design of the public spaces as well as the elevators. This is a royal-looking property and I can recommend this place to business men, families seeking for a dazzling alternative to the Adlon and lovers of luxury shopping - Friedrichstrasse is behind the hotel and there are all upscale brands.
