24 Hours at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, Nassau

Let's say it was Love at least sight. We were staying at a treehouse, a luxury beachside property and an elegant resort in Jamaica when we still did not arrange our accommodation for the night in Nassau. I looked through Trivago and found out that the Grand Hyatt dropped its price from 390 to 240 USD - again it's a brand new property and as soon as I spotted pictures of ESPA toiletries in the bathrooms, I knew this place needs to be inspected. After booking, I arranged a pick-up from the airport and boarded the plane in Providenciales (Turks- and Caicos). The tiny InterCaribbean machine was making a big curve over Nassau and the first thing that welcomed us was a vast resort indicating Baha Mar just before we were touching ground at Nassau airport. Leaving the hassle of customs behind us, we were welcomed by a friendly lady from the stunning Baha Mar stand at the arrival hall. She made sure our driver was on the way, helped us with the luggage and brought us two cups of tea to ensure - we have arrived in paradise. When her phone rang, she rushed outside the terminal - both our heavy luggage in hand, whisking over to the big Mercedes where driver Henry was greeting us. This was one of the most stressless arrival procedures I have ever experienced and would say the steep transportation cost is absolutely worth it!

Once arrived at the stunning but immensely vast Baha Mar resort, stunning was the only word that came to my mind. I knew Rosewood and SLS were not yet opened, however I was excited to see the first progress of one of the biggest hotel developments in Middle America. Slowly stopping in front of the main entrance, bellmen rushed around our SUV and wecomed us to the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. Luggage been taken care of and sun still shining, we were checked-in and shown the way to fhe room after a brief intro-tour through the main areas of the hotel. Our room was situated on the 16th floor and I found out that the hotel was actually bigger than I expected with 1800 rooms and suites in total - however just operating the standard room category so far. Some exciting news coming up in regards to the suites. I totally fell in love with the lavish design of the ground floor combined with the sleek marine look in the hallways and rooms.

Room 1623 was ours and one could tell: brand new! Not sure if someone ever slept in this room before, we began to inspect the sleek room with two amazingly hevenly queen beds and the best blankets we have experienced during our trip through the Caribbean so far. I am a bathroom lover and the only hotel that is comparable to that bathroom heaven is the Corinthia London - also because of the ESPA toiletries - one of the best in the world when it comes to the most discerning travelers. The bathroom had really everything one could dream of: deep soaking tub, heavy walk-in shower with rain shower head, separated toilet, double vanities, plenty of 75ml toiletries as well as two towels per person. For my taste, the wardrobe was sufficient as was the working desk. If you go for a king bedded room you have a sofa inside the room - making the room look even bigger. I would definitely go for a king room next time due to that.

Breakfast is not included in the rate, therefore we don't know where it would have been servedand how it looked like. Anyways there is a Starbucks in-house just between the lobby and the elevators, which is probably the best alternative to get a coffee and grab a snack. While there are currently only three restaurant outlets (all don't have stunning reviews) operating, you have plenty of options outside the Baha Mar plus more restaurants are following soon - I guess with the opening of SLS and Rosewood it is getting more excited as well. We went to the steakhouse at Melia Hotel which is next door (5 minutes walking distance) where the had excellent steaks and seafood. There's even a shuttle that seemed to be complimentary.

Generally it felt so great to stay in a world-class hotel room with marble bathroom, floor heating, great toiletries, super water pressure and amazing beds after two weeks of staying at Caribbean resorts. Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is an excellent alternative to the pricey Atlantis resort which is old, dated and offers terrible customer service. Should prices remain at 300 USD a night, it's definitely an amazing choice for a holiday at the Bahamas - also because you won't have a boring time thanks to the various pools, the white beach, the great gym and the renowned Spa by British brand ESPA.
